FAQ

How much turkey per person for Thanksgiving?

USDA's FSIS recommends allowing 1 pound of turkey per person for a whole fresh or frozen turkey, and 1¼ pounds per person for a frozen pre-stuffed turkey. The weight includes bone.

How many sides do I need for Thanksgiving?

Our own rule of thumb: for 6 to 12 guests, plan a starch (potatoes), stuffing, one or two vegetables, cranberry sauce, rolls, and gravy. More sides means smaller portions of each, not more food overall.

How much mashed potatoes per person?

Our rule of thumb is about half a pound of raw potatoes per guest, which makes roughly a generous half-cup to cup serving after mashing. Add 25% if you want leftovers.

How many pies for Thanksgiving?

We plan one 9-inch pie per 8 guests (one slice each), rounded up. If you serve two kinds, many guests take a sliver of both, so the same total is usually enough.
